Civil War Living History and
Cemetery Walk
Saturday, June 18, 2011
3:00 p.m.
In the years 1861-1865 a number of residents from Mill Point (now Spring Lake) enlisted in military units from all over Michigan and went to fight as part of the Union (Federal) troops during the Civil War. Today, approximately 150 years later, the Brothers of the Henry E. Plant Camp #3, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, a descendants’ group from the Lake Michigan area, will be honoring these boys in blue from the Spring Lake area.
The Henry E. Plant Camp #3 will again make a historical presentation of the lives of some of these Civil War Veterans and provide information on the war itself. They will hold a Civil War Living History with a display of a typical camp site and actual artifacts used during the Civil War. This will be followed by a cemetery walk covering a few of the local Civil War veterans buried in the Spring Lake Cemetery.
These descendents of many Civil War veterans will commence their attack on the Spring Lake Cemetery at 3:00 P. M. on Saturday June 18th from their camp site located at the southwest gate of the new section of the cemetery on Fruitport Road.
We welcome you to come see, listen and learn about what some of our Spring Lake ancestors went through during the Civil War.
